What skills are needed to be a region advisor marketing?
Core Competencies
The successful candidate will have the following core competencies:
Understanding of marketing principles and concepts:
Creation/implementation of successful marketing campaigns; brand identification; understanding of recruitment and retention methodologies; corporate relationships (e.g., cold calls, closing sales, relationship building).
Leadership:
Team and relationship building; coaching and mentoring; networking; developing future leaders.
Communication:
Both written and verbal; effective listening skills.
Conflict Management:
Mediation when needed; assist district leadership teams as needed.
Understanding of TI:
Mission, vision and values; organizational structure; the club model; distinguished programs; TI-specific marketing strategies.
Training:
Experience developing successful marketing training programs; ability to effectively teach complex concepts; experience with multiple learning platforms.
Project Management:
General project management skills; ability to work with multiple districts simultaneously; ability to interact with multiple positions (e.g., WHQ staff, board members).
Technical Abilities:
Understanding of social networking resources; working knowledge of current software applications; familiarity with e-learning programs.
Problem Solving:
Analytical insight/skills; the ability to apply these skills both independently and within a team.
Qualifications
All candidates must:
- Be a Toastmaster in good standing.
- Have served a minimum of 12 consecutive months as a district governor, lt. governor education and training, or lt. governor marketing — or a combination thereof — or have demonstrated marketing expertise.
- Be available for training, communication and travel as needed.
- Have regular access to e-mail and the Internet (see Technical Abilities under Core Competencies for more detail).
Expectations
RAs report to the International President through WHQ and serve a 16-month term, beginning March 15 and concluding June 30 of the following year. An RA cannot serve more than two consecutive terms and must re-apply. Region advisors are expected to:
- Participate in a region advisor marketing orientation conference call or Webinar.
- Conduct the district leadership training at the International Convention and mid-year training.
- Travel to each district in his or her region once per year. All visits must be approved by the International President. If the RA visits a district a second time, expenses may not be reimbursed.
- Participate in a minimum of one conference call per month with WHQ.
- Effectively manage a minimum of monthly communication with district leaders and at least one call with every LGM.
- Conduct quarterly reporting to the Board of Directors and WHQ.
- Undergo a formal performance review twice a year.
- Spend approximately 25–30 hours per month in support of this role.
