Welcome to the District Finance Corner
If you think of Toastmasters International as a living body, then it may help to think of the districts as forming the body’s skeleton. Without the work of each individual district, supporting the mission and goals of Toastmasters International, the organization would not be able to stand. To make sure that our districts maintain their health within the organizational structure of Toastmasters, each district is entrusted with Toastmasters International funds. As life blood carries nutrients to bones, so these funds nourish the districts. In this way, each district can carry out its mission and achieve the major goals of the organization.
Here are the six objectives you’ll need to complete so that you can plan, budget and ultimately achieve your district’s goals. Please work through the objectives in order.
Objective One
- Start with this objective. It all begins with proper Planning.
Objective Two
- Follow the instructions on the Financial Templates page carefully for proper downloading of your templates and other related documents.
Objective Three
- The first template to open from the zip files is your Annual Budget. You'll need the Budget results to fill out the other documents. Read and follow the Eight Steps to a Budget.
Objective Four
- Using the results from your Annual Budget, fill out the other financial templates. These consist of Excel spreadsheets you will use to track your district's expenses.
Objective Five
- Update the Excel spreadsheets monthly to document your activities and expenses. These will be used for your quarterly reports. Please refer to the District Monthly Treasurer's Report Instructions and the District Mid-Year and Year End Audit Instructions to complete the templates correctly.
Objective Six
- You must select an audit committee and combine efforts with the committee twice a year. Working with two of your quarterly reports, the committee must approve the Mid-Year (December) and Year End (June) Audit report by February 15th and August 31st respectively. Print, read and distribute the Audit Committee Guidelines .
Now that you have completed your six objectives - as the body must maintain a regular exercise schedule for good health, you must revisit Objective Five and Objective Six to keep your district finance sound.
