As a director on the Toastmasters International Board of Directors, Theo (Tay-oh) Black is a “working ambassador” for the organization and represents it in a variety of capacities. He works with the Board to develop, support and modify the policies and procedures that guide the organization toward fulfilling its mission.
A resident of Wayzata, Minnesota, Black has been a Toastmaster since 1999, joining a few months after completing his MBA at the University of Minnesota. He has attained the Distinguished Toastmaster designation – the highest level of achievement in the organization. His many leadership positions within Toastmasters have included lt. governor training and education, lt. governor marketing and district governor.
Black is an ASQ Certified Six-Sigma black belt with OptumHealth Financial Services, where he manages quality improvement projects. He is a member of four advanced Toastmasters clubs: Leadership Summit, Parliamentary Procedure, Saturday Morning Live! , and Crest O’ the Hill. “Toastmasters training has taught me the importance of knowing the audience, and how to craft and use humor to liven up presentations,” Black says. He also enjoys playing Sudoku puzzles and duplicate bridge, as well as designing Web sites and playing keyboard for a blues/rock band.
